Good news, Firefox support on Windows 7 might be expanded again!

Last year along with the release of Firefox 115, Windows 7 and 8 users began to switch to Firefox ESR, which Firefox ESR itself is a version of Firefox that gets Extended Support Release and gets updates for up to 13 months.

As a result, Firefox is the sole browser that currently supports previous versions of Windows, including Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, as nearly all browsers (particularly Chromium-based browsers) have long since departed the system.

Aside from that, there is some good news, especially if you are still using Windows 7 or 8 for light browsing and local work. This is because Mozilla just said that they intend to broaden support for their browser.

This story originally appeared during Mozilla’s AMA (Ask Me Anything) on the Firefox subreddit in June, which was attended by the Firefox leadership team, which included:

  • Bethel Kidane, the Senior Product Marketing Manager.
  • Andrew Overholt, Vice President, Engineering, Platform
  • Vicky Chin, Vice President, Engineering, Desktop, Mobile, and Pocket
  • Byron Jourdan, Senior Director for Product Management
  • Bobby Holley, CTO at Firefox
  • Sheila Mooney, Senior Director for Technical Program Management
  • Ian Carmichael, Senior Vice President at Firefox.
  • Aaron Benson, Director of User Experience.
  • Among them, Byron Jourdan, Senior Director, Mozilla Product Management, with the Reddit handle ComprehensiveDoor643, disclosed that Mozilla intends to continue supporting Firefox on Windows 7.

When asked separately if it covers Windows 8 and 8.1, Jourdan said that’s the intention, but how long that extra support will remain is unknown.

This is certainly good news because according to data from Statcounter, there are still at least 4% of users who stay on Windows 7 and 8. With the presence of this extra support, then of course users can still feel safe to surf the Internet until they are ready to update their system to Windows 10 or newer.

The details of how long the support will be available are yet to be revealed, but we will wait for further news from Mozilla. What do you think? please give your opinion below guys.
